Knight’s Orientation welcomed new students to Warner Pacific University on August 22.
“We were very intentional about what we wanted to include in the program to make sure that the orientation was meaningful and a positive welcome to all new students,” said Eric Colon-Cortes, Dean of Students. “We planned a day filled with opportunities for new and transfer students to really dive into campus life and start building community.”
The day included student success workshops, a panel of current students sharing their experiences, and opportunities to explore campus and learn about resources.
About 150 people filled the auditorium for the event. Dr. Brian Johnson, WPU president, welcomed the students with a speech that reminded attendees that “Careers fill pockets; callings fulfill people.”
“The whole point of the orientation was to help students feel like they belong and have a sense of place here on campus,” Colon-Cortes said. “We wanted everyone to feel welcomed and supported as they start this exciting new chapter of their lives.”
Incoming students had a chance to connect with division deans, faculty members, the registrar, and the VP of Academic Affairs.
“I hope that students walked away from the orientation feeling excited, supported, and ready not only to take classes, but to live and experience college life knowing that there is an entire community supporting them,” Colon-Cortes said.
